Bite-sized Tips: Giving effective instructions

Have you been in a situation where you had to repeat your instructions or call your child over 10 times but there was still no response? Here are a few tips to improve your child’s response to your instructions.

1. Go close

2. Go to your child’s eye level

3. Call your child’s name first (wait for eye contact), then give a short and direct instruction (e.g. “Tim, wear shoes please”)

4. Praise! (Providing positive reinforcements for compliance)

Therapy Kidz programmes are all home-based to save the parents the journey to clinics. Home-based therapy is also helpful for children as it is done in their natural environment and in a place that they feel comfortable and safe.
